Firstly Congratulations! Your senior year is finally here, and that means it’s time for one of the most exciting (and Instagram-worthy) parts of your high school journey: your senior photo session! Whether you're all about capturing your inner model or just doing it because Mom said so, I have the tips to make sure you’re ready to slay your session like a pro. So grab your calendar, your favorite outfits, and maybe a donut (because snacks make everything better)—let’s get into it!
📸 1. Pick Your Vibe First things first: what kind of look are you going for?
Classic and polished? Think timeless outfits, natural backdrops, and a clean, professional vibe. Trendy and fun? Let's bring out bold colors, cool locations, or even props like sunglasses or bubblegum. Sporty, artsy, outdoorsy?
Showcase what makes you~you. From football fields to dance studios to nature trails, your senior photos should tell your story.
👕 2. Outfit Game = Strong Outfits can make or break your shoot—so plan ahead.
✅ Bring 2-3 outfit options (you’ll want variety). Think casual, dressy, school spirit wear, and maybe one that says “this is my magazine cover moment.”
✅ Avoid tiny logos and loud patterns. So. no checks or small stripes.
✅ Match up your colors; layering clothes is a win just be sure the colors compliment each other and your skin tone. No, neon colors as they don't photograph well.
✅ Make sure it fits well—you’ll be moving, sitting, and maybe even jumping. Comfort = confidence.
👟 Bonus: Don’t forget to clean your shoes. Dusty sneakers show up in photos more than you’d think!
💄 3. Hair & Makeup
You don’t need to go full glam (unless that’s your thing!), but a little polish goes a long way.
For everyone: Get a fresh trim a few days before(NOT the day before or the same day), tame flyaways, and make sure your skin is moisturized.
For makeup wearers: Aim for a natural, glowy look that enhances your features—not covers them up. Matte powder is your BFF for reducing shine.
For the guys: Don’t forget to shave or groom your facial hair unless you’re rocking the scruffy-chic vibe on purpose.
💅 Bonus: Get your nails done or at least clean and shape them. You’d be surprised how often hands end up in photos.
🌇 4. Location, Location, Location
Where you shoot is just as important as what you wear. Chat with your photographer(me) about places that mean something to you: Your high school stadium or auditorium, a favorite coffee shop or record store, nature trails, gardens, or city streets, quirky spots with murals or vintage vibes!
If you aren't sure of where I have pocket full of places we can discuss and help you choose!
🌟 Golden hour (that dreamy time just before sunset) is the chef’s kiss of lighting—ask to schedule your shoot then if possible. Typically one hour before sunset!
🎒 5. Pack the Essentials
Don’t show up empty-handed! If you can bring a parent or a friend to help you. They will be your entourage for the session. Here’s your senior session survival kit:
- Hairbrush or comb
- Oil blotting sheets or powder
-Props + accessories; this includes sunglasses, hats, varsity jacket, music instrument, colorguard item, fun props & signs.
- Water + a snack (trust us on this one)
-Lip balm or gloss; no dry lips in pics!
-Safety pins and lint roller (emergencies happen!)
- If your session is in the summer, bring a towel to wipe the sweat.
Pack your bag the evening before and double check everything before you leave for the senior photography session.
💃 6. Lastly, Be Yourself (Seriously)
The best senior photos don’t come from perfect poses—they come from genuine you. Laugh, move, be a little goofy. Trust me, your photographer and don’t stress about being awkward (literally everyone thinks that before the shoot).
Remember: this is YOUR moment. Celebrate how far you’ve come and get ready to show the world who’s graduating with style.
Your senior photo session is more than just a few snapshots—it’s a chance to freeze this unforgettable chapter of your life. So take a deep breath, trust the process, and most importantly… have fun with it!
Because years from now, when you’re showing your kids these pics, you’ll want to say, “Yep—I rocked it.”
